Requirements

Currently the economic empowerment/technology skills training programme is challenged by lack of sufficient resources to enable us effectively expand to the 18 women Community Based Organizations located in Ten Districts of Uganda. We are already working with these groups through the Grant Award project and information exchange to enhance their growth.

During the interviews with the groups they indicated the great need to share NVIWODA's 17 years development experience through capacity-building of both leaders and members, and entrepreneurship development programmes for improved living conditions in the communities.

The three-year women entrepreneurship development programme supported by Global Fund for Women directly benefited 401, who are now implementing their acquired skills.

The 15th Anniversary Global Fund For Women Award to NVIWODA has led to great benefits for the 18 Community Based Organizations (CBO's) and indirectly to other women in their Districts, and is a testimony to our work.

The beneficiaries of Entrepreneurship Development started businesses in the following areas: -

Poultry, Juice Processing, Wine Making, Tie and Dye- Textile Development, Bead Making, Bakery, groceries, tailoring, piggery, market vending, hair salons, selling of second hand clothes, selling of hardware, tailoring school, Medical shops (which we call here, Drug Shops), Car washing Bays etc.

Others improved their businesses, especially in: record- and book-keeping; mobilization of resources for expansion. Their self-confidence greatly developed, and attitudes towards economic development have changed.

NVIWODA is therefore seeking for a further Partnership to enable it expand its work to the 18 needy Community Based Organizations in 10 Districts of Uganda.

Besides Entrepreneurship Development of women, NVIWODA also offers further support to the entrepreneurs, to see to it that the skills are well utilized, through an Entrepreneurs Development and Career Support Scheme, which offer credit and career guidance.

Although the Scheme has an insufficient Portfolio, which needs to be increased, it has still benefitted 52 women entrepreneurs since its establishment.

As we continue to train members in use of ICT, we are also challenged by lack of Internet and E-mail services within our organization, as the costs are too high to sustain.

This needs to be increased, hence our seeking a seed fund as well.
