- To build awareness, and confidence as to the opportunities available for women within the country.

- To encourage women to work together and learn some technical skills, in order for them to be economically empowered.

Humble beginnings

The organization started in a humble beginning, through vigorous door-to-door mobilization of women within the community of Ntulume Village in Namirembe/Bakuli Parish - Lubaga Division in Kampala District. Sensitizing and creating awareness through Music, Dance and Drama followed this.

Through a series of meetings members identifies their needs in acquiring skills and engaged in hand craft making i.e. table cloth, Crocheting, Mat making, Bakery skills, utilizing appropriate technology like tins and sand as a local oven.

Through, self-help efforts some members raised Ug. Shs. 50/= each (< 1 U.S.$ as at 1987), this was utilized for acquiring raw materials for teaching them the respective skills.

In 1991, NVIWODA participated in Music, Dance, Drama and Projects Parish Competitions, (with 16 villages), which resulted NVIWODA as overall winner with Prizes like, One (1) Dozen of Plastic Mugs, 2 Water Plastic Jerrican, I hurricane lump, 2 tins of Vegetable Cooking Oil, plastic plates of which were turned into cash and raised Ug.shs.6, 000/= (equivalent to US. $ 3.07 today). This supported and strengthened our activities and hence motivated us to initiate a Sanitary Towel Project.

Through self-help efforts and local fundraising, the members were able to lobby for land and build a 2-roomed office where they carry out most of their activities.
